East Hanney site manager wins prestigious housebuilding award for the third time

The site manager at a housing location in East Hanney has won a prestigious industry award for the third time.

Gary Uzzell, who works for Vistry Group, is celebrating after picking up a coveted Pride in the Job Award from the National House Building Council (NHBC).

The accolade, which was awarded to just 443 out of 8,000 site managers entered nationwide, is in recognition of his work at The Nurseries, a development of 48 homes being built under Vistry’s Linden Homes brand.

Gary, 53, who lives in Swindon, said: “Winning this award gave a sense of euphoria and relief that all of our work had paid off. I am thankful to the team at The Nurseries for making this happen - they really are the reason this was possible.

“Everyone has such great attention to detail and ensures everything is done right. We really have the best team of people.”

Gary has worked in the construction industry for 37 years, starting when he was only 16 years old as a bricklayer for a friend’s company. After 16 years, he joined Bovis Homes as a materials controller and within a year was promoted to the role of assistant site manager.

He later worked at several developments as a site manager and was still with the company when it became part of the newly formed Vistry Group, alongside Linden Homes and Vistry Partnerships, in 2020.

It was during his time as a site manager with Bovis Homes that Gary received his first two Pride in the Job awards. He also picked up two NHBC Health and Safety awards in that period.

Gary said: “I believe we have won this award as the quality of the workers and houses are unmatched. Awards like these cannot be achieved without the work of a supportive and dedicated team.

“I am so proud to be working for Vistry. They are a great company and I hope to spend the rest of my working days with them.”

Supriya Ray, managing director for the Vistry Cotswolds region, said: “Gary and the team at The Nurseries have done an incredible job in consistently building quality homes and upholding our goal as a company to provide the very best.

“This award is well deserved, and we know Gary will continue to maintain the high standards of work he has produced for us over the past two decades.”

Vistry is building a range of two, three and four-bedroom properties for sale at The Nurseries, off Steventon Road.
