Developer’s Timely Warning Of Construction Site Danger As Schools Break Up
16 Jul 2018

With school out for summer, there is a warning to adventure-seeking children – and their parents – about the dangers of building sites.

As many schools across the Linden Homes East Yorkshire region have or prepare to break up for the long summer holiday, the house builder has issued the timely reminder; particularly as construction work will continue as normal at many of its development during the coming weeks.

Each year, a number of children are injured as a result of construction site accidents in the UK, as youngsters seek out a seemingly exciting place to play. In 2015, a construction company in Wales was fined for having an insecure site; after a two year old children wandered on to it.

Every summer, in line with HSE advice, Linden Homes urges parents to warn their children of the potential dangers of playing on or near building sites.

Linden Homes East Yorkshire construction director Darron Facey said: "Understandably some children are drawn to construction sites as exciting places to play, but they are not playgrounds and playing on them can have potentially serious consequences.

“The school holidays present an ideal opportunity for a timely reminder to children and parents about the dangers of construction sites – many of which continue to remain active throughout the summer.

“The school holidays create more opportunity for children to play outdoors, but we would appeal to parents to check that their youngsters are in a safe environment when playing.”

Linden Homes does have strict and visible guidelines in place at each construction site, and there is also safety advice on the company website for legitimate visitors to any of its developments at the

Darron added: “While our developments have clear signage and are secured in non-operating hours, much of the machinery and materials we use remain on site – which could have very serious consequences if in the wrong hands.

“Anyone found on site without prior agreement will be escorted out of the area. We cannot take a relaxed view of safety. It is the law.”
