Developer's £10,000 Donation Towards Community Centre Revamp
01 Sep 2014

Housebuilder Linden Homes North has given a £10,000 boost to a North Yorkshire community centre’s revamp plans.

The regional developer has responded to an appeal by trustees looking to carry out an additional £47,000 worth of improvements to the award winning Riccall Regen Centre.

Continuing its long association with the area, including two recent successful developments in Riccall, and with the new Pilgrims Rest development just a stone’s throw away in Howden, Linden Homes has presented its generous donation to the dedicated volunteers who run the centre.

The Regen Centre opened in 2000, four years after the idea first came about from residents, who felt the existing Village Institute did not meet the demands of a growing community.

Today, the centre is at the hub of the community – providing facilities for conferences and meetings, sports and leisure activities, and childcare based groups, such as a nursery and out of school club.

Linden Homes North sales director Steve Woomble said: “The Regen Centre in Riccall is a prime example of what can be achieved by volunteers and local people who really care about their community – and we are delighted to support them in their quest to further improve the centre.”

The £47,000 wish list of improvements includes updating inside and outside facilities for children‘s activities, providing modern training equipment and refurbishing and redecorating a number of rooms within the centre.

The cheque from Linden Homes was presented by sales manager Julie Hubbard to Noel Shouksmith, Regen trustee and current Master of the York Guild of Building.

Noel said: “It is with enormous thanks and huge gratitude that we accept this generous donation from Linden Homes. We are also extremely grateful to Ian Reynolds of Stephensons, North Yorkshire’s largest independent estate agents, for his invaluable assistance and support in securing the donation. The Regen Centre was built by the community for the community and is invaluable to the people of Riccall and other local communities. It is extremely well used by people living in the local and wider area, and also provides excellent facilities for those thinking of moving into Riccall and the surrounding areas.
