Developer And Green-Fingered Community Team Up To Support Flower Power
31 Mar 2018

House Builders are primarily known for bricks and mortar – but in Malton, it is flora and fauna that is once again the talk of the North Yorkshire town!

Forget the dreary weather, thoughts are turning to summer and Yorkshire in Bloom for the green-fingered community, already planning for the big event this summer.

This is the second year that Malton is entering the prestigious horticultural contest, with plans to inject colour and vibrancy around the town through beautiful planting, hanging baskets and tubs; while getting another helping hand from Linden Homes East Yorkshire.

The task will involve over 200 floral displays, including around 130 hanging baskets and barrier planters adorning hot spots around Malton, including installing a huge three-tier planter offering a foundation of colour at between the chevron signs at Malton’s roundabout, which has been developed by LHEY.

The developer, which is currently building at the Copperfields development on the site of the old showground at Pastures Lane, has again offered sponsorship to pay for some of the baskets and containers.

In addition, there are plans for 50 smaller garden projects supported by an ever-growing band of volunteers. New for this year, a major wild flower project in Orchard Fields where a large strip will be raked and sown with insect-friendly wild flowers.

While there are some exciting plans at the drawing board stage, the Malton Town Council – which is overseeing the project - is now appealing for volunteers who would like to dig in and help to get in touch.

Town councillor Christopher Turner said: “We are very excited to be entering the Malton In Bloom competition for a second time, as part of Yorkshire in Bloom under the auspices of The Royal Horticultural Association. Together with the sponsorship from Linden Homes and other businesses, and the commitment from the council and many community groups and individuals, preparations are gathering pace.

“There are still some months to go before the planting comes together, but we hope to impress the judges with our hard work and commitment from so many people in the town.”

Linden Homes East Yorkshire sales manager Julie Hubbard said: “As we have an association with the town, we are delighted to help sponsor the Malton In Bloom efforts. Many of our Copperfields residents and newcomers will certainly benefit from this amazing project once summer arrives.”

The next few months will see the plants being grown ready for planting out in late spring/ early summer before the all important first round of judging in July.

A range of three and four-bedroom homes are being built at Copperfields. For details of availability and current incentives contact the sales team on 01653 472373.
