Couple Drop Offer In Favour Of Water Colour's Charms
02 Aug 2012

Long-time househunters Andrew and Rachel Newns were just days away from making an offer on another property when they made the last-minute decision to first check out Water Colour in Redhill, Surrey – and fell in love with it.

In quick time the couple had found a home they adored, put in an offer and two months later, thanks to taking advantage of Linden Homes’ no-hassle Part Exchange scheme, they had the keys to their brand new four-bedroom townhouse.

From their one-bedroom flat in Hampstead the move was a big change and the pair are delighted with the quality of their property and the location which gives financial analyst Andrew a commute of just over an hour into the City.

Andrew (31) and Rachel (32), who is head of outsource services at a travel company, had been househunting for about a year when Water Colour’s value and convenient position for both their journeys to work drew their attention.

Andrew said: “We were actually looking at a different development in Esher and we were going to put in an offer but then my wife saw Linden Homes on the internet and we thought to ourselves: let’s go and have a look. When we went to see it we fell in love with it and put in an offer straight away.

“The house has more than met our expectations. The nice change for us is the increase in space with the roof terrace and folding windows which open up into the garden.

“We’ve had my mum and dad round to see it, and they love the place – my only worry was that they might buy one next door! My friends have been too and they love it, especially the extra space so they don’t have to sleep on the floor anymore.”

Water Colour is a lakeside village offering peace and quiet with its wide, sunny streets, cycle paths and walkways crisscrossing 7.5 acres of open space featuring communal gardens, canals, reed beds, fountains and a stream.

In the centre are facilities including a doctor's surgery, a vet and a Tesco, and beyond are Redhill and Reigate town centres, both boasting an abundance of local shops, cafes, restaurants and a train station, linked to Water Colour by its own dedicated bus route.

Andrew continued: “The Part Exchange scheme made the difference for us – it was really good. We got pretty much what we wanted for the flat and it worked out how we wanted. In two months of making the offer we were moving in.”

The Part Exchange scheme offers one quick, hassle-free agreement that takes out estate agents’ fees and the problems with chains which can scupper even the most secure-looking move.

Within seven days eligible buyers will have a valuation on their property made by three local estate agents and a cash offer made, as long as their current property is not more than 70 per cent of the value of what you want to buy.

The only thing left to do then is set a move-in date and get packing. In the second half of last year 321 Linden Homes buyers used Part Exchange around the country.

Water Colour’s spacious homes comprise one and two-bedroom apartments and two, three, four and five-bedroom houses, with signature design in collaboration with one of the country's leading architects, London-based John Thompson Partnership.

The countryside surrounding Redhill includes the Surrey Downs with its glorious walks and views, while closer to home, and part of Water Colour, is 25 acres given to the Surrey Wildlife Trust to manage as a nature reserve with its lagoons, woods, wildlife and grassland.
