Children Warned About The Dangers Of Construction Sites (2016)
11 Aug 2016

In line with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Linden Homes is encouraging parents to warn their children of the dangers of playing on or near building sites.

Although the schools have broken up for the summer holidays, work will continue on all of Linden Homes’ developments. Mick Arnold, the company’s production director said: "Construction sites are not playgrounds and while they may seem exciting to children, they are not places to play.

“It is a real concern for me, especially as a father, that children may try to enter these very dangerous places, especially with the recent Pokémon craze, as playing on building sites can have fatal consequences.”

Each year many children are injured and some even killed as a result of construction site accidents in the UK, as youngsters seek out a seemingly exciting place to play.

Latest figures from the Health and Safety Executive reveal that since 2011, 109 under 16s have been injured in construction site accidents, resulting in the death of one child.

Mick added: “We host site visits for school children and their teachers in attempt to raise awareness of the potential dangers. However, the lighter evenings during the summer months create more time for children to play outdoors, so we are appealing to parents to check that their youngsters are in a safe environment when playing and are well away from building sites.

“Linden Homes does have strict and visible guidelines in place and each construction site is securely locked up each day.”

Linden Homes incorporates a number of play areas into its developments, so children can play safely in the right environment. The company is currently creating a number of new developments in Kempsey, Gloucester, Kingsway, Bishop’s Cleeve, Bristol, Bath, Radstock and Salisbury.
