Twelve Fairford photographers’ flashes of inspiration won their places in a special 2014 competition calendar produced by award-winning housebuilder Linden Homes.
The winners, whose ages ranged from 8 to 64, shared prize money worth £985 after submitting images celebrating the area – whether landscapes, events, traditions or eye-catching buildings.
Their digital photos have been drawn together into a calendar which has been delivered to local schools for them to sell to boost their funds.
Linden Homes set the challenge exclusively to villagers in Fairford, where it is developing Stoneleigh – a high quality collection of 19 three and four-bedroom detached family houses.
The competition attracted almost 200 entries from residents with images featuring everything from sunsets and snowscapes to ducks and waterfalls – and even a spectacular local fly-over by the Red Arrows.
The first category was ‘Fairford Life’, which had a £200 prize for the winner aged 12 or over, and £100 for a second winner aged 11 or under. Chris Hunt (64) won the senior prize with his shot of an angler. William Axel-Berg (11) won the junior one with his swimming ducks.
The second category was ‘Fairford Buildings and Architecture’, which included all ages. The winner of the top £200 award was Peter Brown (49) with a beautiful riverside scene.
The full colour calendar will be sold by Farmor’s School, Fairford C of E Primary School and Coln House School.
Linden Homes Thames Valley sales and marketing director, Steve Garton, said: “Fairford is a beautiful village surrounded by stunning countryside – so it made perfect sense to try to capture that in a calendar. People who live here are very lucky!
“The competition was to help the schools raise funds, produce something that shows why Fairford is such a great place to settle, and to give residents a chance to put their photography talents to the test.
“The images reflect a thriving community and I think our exclusive new homes at Stoneleigh will fit in very well. There’s been a lot of early interest in them so I’d advise people to register with us so they are at the head of the queue when they go on sale.”
