Gemma and Nick have just moved to their dream home at Linden Homes’ Kings Gate development in Kingsteignton, thanks to a little help from the Help to Buy scheme.
Nick, 34, is an NHS manager and Gemma, 38, trained as a midwife, they have three boys aged 11, 13 and 15 and a two year old daughter.
Speaking about their experience, Gemma said: “We were living in a three bedroom Victorian terrace house with a small garden near Decoy Country Park and were desperate for a bit more space. We were also keen to move back to Kingsteignton as we’d rented a property there a few years ago but the house prices in Newton Abbot had pulled us away.
“We hadn’t considered a new home as we assumed it would be out of budget but there weren’t many properties on the market. We popped in to Kings Gate to have a look around and fell in love with our home instantly. Then as fate would have it, we sold our house within two weeks – it’s almost as if it was meant to be.
“We bought a four bedroom detached home using Help to Buy and the whole process couldn’t have been easier. We didn’t realise you could use Help to Buy if you already owned your own home – we thought it was just for first time buyers – so we were thrilled that we could afford the extra space that we desperately needed.
“Not only does it have lots of character, but our home is spacious, it’s not overlooked and the children have their own floor as it’s a split level property, which we just love. It gives us all the room we need and will work well as the kids grow older. The other main advantage was the enormous garden - our children finally have their own football pitch!
“We also love being back in Kingsteignton. The boys can walk to school again; it’s meant we’re not constantly driving them around and gives them the independence to see their friends easily.
“The only thing we would have done differently is use one of Linden’s recommended solicitors as we had a few problems with ours but Dean, the sales executive, was so helpful and couldn’t do enough for us. He guided us through the whole Help to Buy process and really put our minds at rest, we’re thrilled with our new home.”
