The fluttering red Linden Homes’ flags have been a feature on Southampton’s Avenue for almost five years: The building work on this unusual development began in 2009 with the first residents moving in to their new homes the same year, in what Linden Homes described as an ‘old style, new fashioned neighbourhood.’
The vision then was of a collection of homes set around some tranquil parkland – ‘an oasis of calm’: this was Park Centrale.
Today almost all of those homes – houses and apartments – have been sold and the neighbourhood has evolved. The trees which have always surrounded the development are thriving while in the meantime the landscapers have worked their magic and the parkland at the heart of Park Centrale has become beautifully established.
Tina Chalk is the marketing manager at Linden Homes’ Southern:
“This has been a sought after development right from the beginning and each phase has inspired quick sales as people have been consistently drawn by the location. Park Centrale is close to the city centre and is within walking distance of some of the most popular shops and boutiques in Southampton, so it has a tremendous amount of appeal. It is city living but within a very quiet, secluded and leafy neighbourhood.”
The last remaining two homes are both elegant, three storey town houses on the edge of Park Centrale. The address is ‘The Avenue’ and both have two car parking spaces – a real bonus in a city location.
The two town houses both have four bedrooms arranged over three floors. On the ground floor there is a kitchen, hall and dining room. On the first floor there is a glamorous living room and bedroom one – which has an ensuite bathroom. The three remaining bedrooms are on the second floor.
Park Centrale was built on land that was originally bought in 1880 by the Sisters of La Sainte Union des Sacres Coeurs. Over the following 100 years the building, with its leafy surroundings, became home to various educational establishments, such as La Sainte Union College, the Convent High School and New College. It was affiliated, at various times, with Southampton University and latterly with the Southampton College of Higher Education.
