House Builder Swaps Bricks And Mortar To Support Flora And Fauna!
22 Feb 2017

While the dreary winter weather is still with us for a while longer – thoughts of the summer are beginning to blossom in North Yorkshire.

The green-fingered community of the thriving town of Malton are planning for a big date in their social calendar, gearing up for a prestigious event which they hope will earn top marks from Yorkshire In Bloom judges.

Malton is entering its first ever Yorkshire In Bloom competition, to inject colour and vibrancy into areas of Malton through beautiful planting, hanging baskets and tubs.

And offering a helping hand in the huge horticultural task – which will see 120 hanging baskets adorning areas around the town - are Linden Homes East Yorkshire.

The developer, which is currently building at the Copperfields development in Malton, on the site of the old showground at Pastures Lane, has offered sponsorship to pay for some of the baskets and containers.

The project is being overseen locally by Malton Town Council – with voluntary assistance from a number of gardeners, community groups and organisations including; The Fitzwilliam Estate, Gardeners Club Malton School, St Michael’s Church, Malton Tidy Group, Malton Flower Club and Derwent Diggers.

Town councillor Christopher Turner said: “We are very excited to be entering our first ever Malton In Bloom competition. Together with the sponsorship from Linden Homes and other businesses, and the commitment from the council and many community groups and individuals, preparations are gathering pace.

“There are still some months to go before the planting comes together, but we hope to impress the judges with our hard work and commitment from so many people in the town.”

Linden Homes East Yorkshire sales manager Julie Hubbard said: “As we have an association with the town, we are delighted to help sponsor the Malton In Bloom efforts. Many of our Copperfields residents and newcomers will certainly benefit from this amazing project once summer arrives.”

The next few months will see the plants being grown ready for planting out in late spring/ early summer before the all important judging in July.
