The threat of flooding from stormy weather is being tackled with a dedicated drainage system at one of our developments in St Albans.

At the leafy King Harry Park scheme near the city centre, extensive measures are being taken, above and below ground, to make sure rain is contained and does not cause problems for residents and property.

A pond featuring wild native plants is the most obvious feature, which is supported by drainage landscaping and underground storage tanks which temporarily hold water within the site.

It is discharged safely into the sewers later to avoid the problems of overloading the pipes, and protecting residents, neighbours and the environment.

Linden Homes Chiltern managing director Darren Maddox said: “As we have seen around the country in recent years, flooding is an issue which can cause problems ranging from the merely inconvenient to the catastrophic.

“As home-builders we are very aware of our responsibility to help address this challenge, and the system at King Harry Park demonstrates how preventative action can be taken to try to forestall flooding and protect neighbours and wildlife from harm.”
