More young apprentices will gain the skills to find work after we shook hands on a partnership with South Devon College to run a new training hub in Paignton.
The education centre is being created as part of our South west region’s White Rock development and will help teach trades such as painting and decorating, bricklaying, plumbing, carpentry and business administration.
The facility will be ready in 2014 to enable apprentices, higher education students, plus primary and secondary school children to experience a busy development site and see if a career in the construction industry is for them.
Linden Homes is part of the Galliford Try Group whose chief executive Greg Fitzgerald began his career at South Devon College on a building studies course. He was the keynote speaker at the college’s Day of Celebration, where he also signed the partnership agreement.
Greg said: “I’m incredibly passionate about young people having the opportunities that I had and getting a skill under your belt will set you up for life for a career in construction and housebuilding.”
Adele Dawson, head of department from South Devon College, added: “Galliford Try are putting a lot back in to the community through their education programme at the South Devon Link Road project, and now this is being extended to the Linden Homes’ White Rock development.”
Linden Homes has contributed over £9.7 million towards leisure, sport and other public facilities in the UK since 2010.
We only use composite front doors which are insulated to lessen heat loss from our homes.
