Students shown behind the scenes at green development

Sneak peak: pupils are shown around the energy centre at Graylingwell Park, Chichester

Sneak peak: pupils are shown around the energy centre at Graylingwell Park, Chichester

Our Guildford region gave pupils from a school in Chichester the chance to peek behind the scenes at one of the UK’s greenest communities.

More than 100 youngsters from Bishop Luffa School visited Graylingwell Park to find out more about the workings of this sustainable, new development in their city.

They were taken around the energy centre: the combined heat and power plant located adjacent to the Water Tower that provides enough heating and water to all the homes through gas-fed, low carbon technology.

Graylingwell Park has been created through a partnership between Linden Homes, Affinity Sutton and the Homes & Communities Agency.

Linden Homes’ technical director David Evans and technical manager Gavin Bourne showcased the scheme’s sustainable credentials. Sarah Rance Riley and Tim Morgan, of the Chichester Community Development Trust, highlighted the Graylingwell Hospital’s past.

Jane Paget, geography team leader of Bishop Luffa School, said: “The Graylingwell Park development acted as a great location for our Year 10 geographers to investigate a sustainable community in action.”

Natalie Flint, sales and marketing director of Linden Homes Guildford, added: “We’re delighted that Graylingwell Park was chosen for the school project and hope it offered the children an exciting and unusual school trip that they will remember for years to come.”
