We gave a funding head-start to an athletics club in Morpeth, Northumberland, by signing a new sponsorship deal to help support members’ activities.
The assistance from our North East region will include backing the club’s popular 11-kilometre race on New Year’s Day – the successor to the famous Morpeth to Newcastle Road Race, which sadly was discontinued after 100 years of competition.
It will also involve funding for the club’s own road racing championships between August and October, which include races for 13 separate categories, as well as the Harriers’ Young Athlete of the Month competition.
Kate Brooks, head of sales at Linden Homes North East, said: “We know that Morpeth Harriers is one of the top athletics clubs in the country and it is committed to developing the young athletes of the area. We are delighted to be able to support them.”
Morpeth Harriers secretary Mike Bateman said: “Linden Homes will be very active in building homes in the area (at the former St George’s Hospital site) and we are very pleased that it has agreed to help us in also building up the strength and popularity of athletics locally.”
