Our impressive development of Gresham Mill, in Woking, will harness the power of the River Wey which flows through the site to generate green energy.
The eco-friendly installation will feed sustainable electricity onto the National Grid, and will be equivalent to the usage by about 10 per cent of the houses and apartments on the site.
Fittingly, one of the superb homes there has been bought by David Marshall-Duffield (75), the man who has responsibility 24 hours a day for overseeing the weirs on that section of the watercourse.
David’s unique link to the site goes back to its time as St Martha’s printworks, which shut in 2007 due to a merger, when he used to pass through to check the weirs. Now, as well as living there, he will be monitoring the on-site water turbine installed to generate green electricity.
He said: “I just think it’s wonderful – you have got all the fields to see from where we’ll look out from the bedroom and lounge. We’re looking forward to moving to a brand spanking new home which is fully insulated.”
Linden Homes Guildford managing director Peter Youll said: “Gresham Mill is an excellent example of how to rejuvenate former industrial land into quality housing, reflecting our sustainable principles. It’s wonderful to see David setting up home there to keep watch over the river.”
