A site manager from our parent company, Galliford Try, has been moved to cycle 170 miles in aid of a hospital which provided cancer care for his uncle and aunt.
Stevie Foster (30) and three colleagues – Simon Maddison (44), Simon Grylls (49) and Ashley Foster (45) – plan to pedal coast to coast from Morecambe to Bridlington on September 5th-6th.
To raise cash for Gateshead’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital Charitable Funds, they will travel along the Way of the Roses route, a gruelling journey that climbs 1,312 feet to the top of Greenhow Hill.
Galliford Try Partnerships North will cover the cost of the van that will tour with them, and the Cycle Centre in Byker has provided equipment and a support mechanic.
Stevie said: “When I told my work colleagues about it there were instant promises of donations and the three lads all said they’d like to ride with me, which is fantastic. We hope to raise around £1,000 plus any donations from others who hear about the challenge.”
Lucia Hiden, the hospital’s head of communications, said: “We are extremely grateful for all donations and fundraising activity and we wish Stevie, the two Simons and Ashley every success for their ride.”
