Pupils at South Devon Steiner School recently visited our Orestone View new homes development in Goodrington to learn about the housebuilding process.
The children, all aged eight or nine years old, were shown floor plans, taken to look at the building site, watched a JCB 12-metre reach forklift truck in action and then viewed a completed show home.
Linden Homes South West build manager Andrew Sykes said: “Getting hands-on experience really brings the housebuilding process to life. Being able to touch the different types of materials and see the different stages of build is a much more useful lesson than anything you could do in the classroom.
“We love having schools visit us on site, some of the pupils ask some really interesting questions and make some very imaginative suggestions – it’s great to see them so inspired. It’s a perfect opportunity to talk to the children about site safety too.”
Teacher Simon Berkley, from South Devon Steiner School, said: “Being able to hold a lesson on a building site ensures it’s a lesson the children will remember and we’re so grateful to Linden Homes for making this happen.”
