Troweling success: youngsters at the Water Colour development in Redhill
Pupils from Woodfield School in Merstham, Surrey donned hard hats and high visibility jackets as they helped to build a wall at our Water Colour development in Redhill.
During the visit, the geography class learnt all about staying safe around building sites and the importance of new build homes to their local area.
Terri Wyse, English Coordinator and Geography Teacher at Woodfield School said: “The children had a very enjoyable afternoon and they learnt a great deal from the visit. By seeing, experiencing and doing, the children now have a greater understanding of the building process, health and safety and the impact that the new build properties have on the local area.”
We are currently undertaking the final phase of construction at the development which includes a number of community facilities and is nestled beside a peaceful lagoon forming part of the Surrey Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve.
Steve Bangs, managing director of Linden Homes South East, said: “At Linden Homes, we work hard to invest in local communities to ensure our developments have a wider impact on local people than the benefits of just building new homes themselves.
“Giving pupils the chance to put on the health and safety clothing, and help in the construction of a small part of the development is a fun way of helping them to understand the hazards on construction sites and the value of new homes to the local area.
“Engaging with the future generation of the workforce from an early age is also crucial to the construction industry as a whole. The sector has a huge impact on employment which stretches far beyond the site to the local economy through suppliers and subcontractors. We hope we’ve inspired some of the young people we met by showing how they can make a real difference to the development of their local community.”
