Newts and bats at the head of the queue for new homes!

Protected: we found suitable new homes to safeguard Great Crested Newts in Hampshire

Newts and bats got priority for new homes at one of our Guildford region’s developments in Hampshire.

Before major works could start on a new collection of high quality homes at the former Treloar College site, in Upper Foyle, near Alton, we had to safely relocate some Great Crested Newts.

Under a special licence granted by Natural England, we tasked experts with the job of finding them suitable new homes so that demolition could start without them coming to harm.

Meanwhile, bats also got fresh accommodation in specially made bat boxes that perfectly suit their roosting preferences. Under expert supervision, the animals were safely moved so they could settle in the pre-prepared lodgings at other locations on the site.

The village-style Froyle Park will feature 58 homes, comprising 41 new houses plus 17 apartments and townhouses created through a sensitive refurbishment of Burnham House at the centre of the site.

Linden Homes Guildford managing director Peter Youll said: “The care we take safeguarding wildlife shows how seriously we take our duty to look after the environment. Creating sustainable neighbourhoods begins long before a brick is laid.”
