The Mayor of Torbay was the VIP guest to launch the Open Doors event at our White Rock development in the town offering an insight into careers in construction.
On Friday 6th and Saturday 7th March, our South West region joined the national initiative to invite members of the public, including schools and colleges, to meet the team, learn about the project and better understand the various opportunities in building work.
The event is leading up to National Apprentice Week and Torbay’s mayor, Gordon Oliver, met workers on site, including three of our apprentices, and had a wall-building lesson from Neil College, a bricklayer from Contour Brickwork with 35 years’ experience.
The Mayor said: “It’s been fascinating learning a trade and meeting some of the apprentices on site at White Rock. The construction industry offers a fantastic career path and it’s great to see such a valuable investment being made by Linden Homes.”
Nigel Palmer, managing director for Linden Homes South West, added: “Linden Homes has just launched a specialised training and education hub – with National Skills Academy for Construction status – at White Rock where schools, trainees and apprentices can learn construction skills, such as carpentry, bricklaying, business administration and plumbing so it was the perfect place to host this event.”
