Demonstrating that housebuilding is about people and communities just as much as housing, our team in the south-west is leading by example in encouraging subcontractors to take on apprentices, giving young people practical, long-term support to learn a trade through the Linden Homes Apprenticeship Programme.
The company, in partnership with Ofsted-graded "outstanding" training provider, PSC Training & Development, has employed over 50 apprentices, either directly or through its supply chain. These include 20-year-old Sean Lindsey, who has worked on four of our developments over three years and will this year graduate as a carpenter.
“Being able to look at something you’ve built has given me a great deal of pride. I feel great knowing that I have made a lasting difference,” he said.
Wes Todd, 19, and Ryan Evans, 17, are both employed by Linden Homes at its Boslowen site. While being interviewed for the same carpentry and joinery apprenticeship position, both impressed the interview panel with their attitude and willingness to learn, and so were both hired under the scheme.
Linden Homes’ apprenticeship Ccordinator, Pat Brown, said: “The apprenticeship programme provides learners with ongoing support and training through a structured pathway to their diploma and key skills. It shows how partnerships between the public and private sectors can deliver high quality, sustainable homes while also strengthening local communities.”
