The leader of Wandsworth Council paid a visit to our redevelopment of the former Battersea Police Station to add his voice to the recent chorus of approval for the scheme.
Cllr Ravi Govindia’s endorsement came a week after our South East region’s proposals for 46 high quality new homes were voted through unanimously by members of the authority’s planning committee.
Cllr Govindia met representatives of Linden Homes when he arrived at the site in Battersea Bridge Road.Adjacent Hyde Lanewill also be transformed with a new road surface, paving and landscaping.
He said: “There are two key challenges for this site – preserve the historic main building and create the mix of new homes our community needs. Linden Homes’ plan delivers on both counts.
“The proposal will bring an empty and distinctive building back into use and comes with a contribution of more than half a million pounds towards improving local services as well as ten affordable homes for Wandsworth residents.
“This is not a listed building so it’s all the more pleasing that the developer opted for a sensitive conversation rather than demolition and new-build. Linden Homes clearly recognised the former police station’s historic value and listened carefully to the views of local residents, councillors and amenity groups.”
