The protection of the environment and climate change are among the greatest challenges we face. We recognise that we have a key part to play through minimising the impact our business has on the environment.

Sustainable Communities

It is vital we engage with local communities to ensure our developments meet the needs of local people. Community engagement is integral to the journey, from planning right through until site completion.

We’re proud of our record of quality homes, sustainable neighbourhoods and sought-after apprenticeships, and at Ogwell Brook, near Newton Abbot, the numbers really add up for the local community.

The development is delivering a mix of 186 apartments and houses to give options to families, first-time buyers and retirees. A quarter will be affordable to help people get onto the housing ladder.

Ogwell Brook is also providing vital training and is where more than 100 apprentices in 2011 and 2012 gained knowledge crucial to their careers and to help close the construction industry’s skills gap.

The trainees were among the first to join the Linden Homes National Apprentice Programme – a £500,000 national initiative aiming to recruit 500 young people over two-three years to be the UK’s builders and managers of the future.

The Ogwell Brook investment has also created 73 jobs on site for contractors too as well as the 13 architects, engineers and surveyors retained on the project, plus our team of four locally-based Linden Homes staff.

Two-thirds of the businesses working there are based less than 30 miles away, and three-quarters of our suppliers are based in the south-west.

Linden Homes Divisional Managing Director Tom Nicholson, who is responsible for group special projects, said: "When we say that we work with local communities, we truly mean it: from our initial engagement during the planning process, through the construction phase, to the day we hand over the keys to a property.

“We are fulfilling an array of local needs – for employment, housing, infrastructure, transport and a diverse range of extra community benefits.”
