Pupils, teachers and new homes staff joined forces for a geography lesson with a difference – to investigate brand new homes rather than million-year-old rocks.
GSCE students from Baysgarth School in Barton-upon-Humber visited our North region’s sell-out St Nicholasgate development and were given a guided tour by our production manager, Kevin Hoyland.
Accompanied by head of geography Matthew Bee and geography teacher Rachael Cross, the Year 10 pupils looked at the brick styles and street scenes, learned how the land was prepared prior to building the 130 homes and were given an insight into its past use.
They also looked at environmental issues, solar panels and other energy efficient building methods. St Nicholasgate was presented with an award for Best Brownfield development in 2013.
Geography teacher Rachael Cross added: “The students took so much away from the tour of the development and their informative discussions with Linden Homes staff – thanks to everyone who helped to make the visit such an enjoyable success.”
Linden Homes North sales manager Julie Hubbard said: “We were thrilled to host this second visit by the GSCE geography students, who were keen to find out as much as possible about the past, present and the future of this site.”
