It can be tricky getting to know your neighbours but it was literally a piece of cake at Alston Park, Devon, thanks to one gregarious resident.
Gurinder Mankoo was the first to move into the new close in Plympton and decided to treat all the subsequent new arrivals with her home baking to get to know everybody and grow a friendly neighbourhood.
She also set up a getting-to-know-you party for everyone to bring their favourite dish and find out more about each other over a glass of champagne.
The community spirit even extends to the name of the development, Alston Park, which was chosen by pupils at the nearby Chaddlewood Primary School.
Sales executive Helen Hufford said: “I’ve got to know quite a few of the residents personally during the time I was based at the sales suite at Alston Park.
“Gurinder has been a real inspiration to bringing the neighbourhood together, all of whom turned up to the house party and now help each other out with daily chores and meet up on a regular basis.”
