Cricket bats: the cosy shelters offer protection against predators, drafts and light
When we build homes we take care not to forget the animals too and at our development at Gloucestershire County Cricket Club’s ground we’re providing accommodation for birds and bats.
Bat boxes will also be installed on walls and in groups on trees so the creatures can choose their roost depending on the weather. They offer a cosy home protecting against predators, draughts and light.
As part of the work, trees and shrubs are being removed which had the potential to be used by birds. So to compensate we are putting up boxes specially designed to cater for a variety of species including swifts, house martins, sparrows and many more.
As well as birds and bats, the homes in Bristol will be ideal for sports fans as they are one part of a major £10 million redevelopment to attract international Test matches and make the stadium a state-of-the-art venue.
Linden Homes Western managing director Clive Wiltshire said: “Being a responsible housebuilder isn’t just about delivering quality homes where people enjoy living, it’s also about taking a lead in looking after the natural surroundings – even in a city location like this.
“I hope that just as residents will thrive in this new community, so the wildlife that lives alongside them will flourish too.”
