A school in Maidenhead is £500 closer to its fundraising target for playground improvements thanks to a donation from our Chiltern region.
Teachers, parents and pupils at Boyne Hill Infant and Nursery School have been busy doing all sorts of activities to collect money for a new shelter, all-weather grass, soft tarmac, a play house and fresh bedding plants.
Efforts to reach £9,000 have included regular cake sales, while one group of staff gathered sponsorship and took on the annual 13-mile Maidenhead Boundary Walk challenge.
Children have contributed their own artistic designs for Christmas tea towels, and special cards and mugs have also been produced too – all as part of the fundraising programme.
Headteacher Jane Hunsley said the clothes’ bank in the school car park has been a good source of funds: “Each time the clothing and bedding donations are collected, the items are weighed and the school receives a donation per weight.
“It’s quite a good money raiser actually and often yields nearly £100 whenever the clothes bank is emptied.”
Youngsters are expected to join classes from families moving to our new Boyn Hill Gardens development which is close to the school.
