Our South West region has been implementing an array of green measures to shrink our environmental footprint.

We start this action before the houses are even built so, for example, the on-site portable cabins from which the projects are run use energy saving systems and even water-reducing devices in the toilets.

Recycling is another important strategy and in the South West we have diverted 97 per cent of waste from landfill by putting time and effort into carefully segregating materials during construction.

The aggregates, such as sand and stone, are often recycled; we also re-use excavated soil; and the timber is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. Log burners, solar panels and a wind turbine all feature in developments too.

Linden Homes South West managing director Nigel Palmer said: “There’s no single way to shrink your environmental footprint but by focussing on it in everything we do, we are making a difference.

“Importantly, that continues after buyers have moved into their homes by cutting carbon emissions with highly efficient insulation, double glazing and state-of-the-art boilers. It saves households money too.”
