A pair of apprentices were given a chance to shine with work at our 41-home development at Retford, Nottinghamshire.
The two trainees, Mike Douthwaite and Carl Price, both travelled all the way from the Grimsby area to take part. They were challenged to help refurbish the old caretaker’s cottage on the site, which used to be St Giles School.
Instead of being overseen directly, however, the apprentice joiner and plasterer were allowed to work independently to prove themselves.
They finished their task to a high standard and as well as getting a big boost to their confidence, by working side-by-side they got a better understanding of how other disciplines in the house-building industry do their work.
The Maples is a 41-home development on the edge of the lively commuter town of Retford, with excellent road and rail links, and just 12 miles away from Robin Hood Airport.
Linden Homes North managing director Ian Hessay said: “I congratulate these two apprentices for absolutely making the most of the opportunity we offered them. They did a great job.
“It shows yet again that Linden Homes is serious about leading the way in giving young workers a chance, benefitting communities and helping to train up the next generation.”
All of our toilets have a modern dual flush facility to conserve water usage.
