A film depicting all walks of life from a diverse London community was given a boost with funding from our south-east region.
We decided to give £500 to help producer and writer Leon Butler, who wants to film ‘One Square Mile’ in Battersea and Chelsea, telling a multi-layered, gritty but inspirational story of the people who live there and using locals as extras and crew.
The project is based on real events and is more than a film, as Leon has linked up with charity STORM, which helps women get out of domestic abuse situations, and School of Hard Knocks, which gets underprivileged people playing rugby.
He said: “Working with the local charities and generous sponsorship from companies such as Linden Homes will hopefully make this film happen and restore the sense of the community and improve the area as a whole.”
Paul Cooper, Linden Homes’ south-east divisional managing director, said: “This is an exciting project that I hope will gather even more sponsorship so it can get off the ground and tell the neighbourhood’s unique story.
“We really wanted to give our share of support because ‘One Square Mile’ shares so much of what the Linden Homes Foundation philosophy is about – taking positive action that both includes and benefits communities.”
The benefits of buying new make the choice easy. Here are just a few:
