MP blown away by pupils’ wind turbine designs!

Enthusiasm: Steve Gilbert MP joined pupils at Grampound with Creed School

Enthusiasm: Steve Gilbert MP joined pupils at Grampound with Creed School

Pupils joining in a sustainable energy education project we’re supporting in Cornwall recently showed off to the local MP their clever model designs for portable wind turbines and solar panels.

Grampound and Creed School was visited by St Austell and Newquay MP Steve Gilbert, who was impressed by the youngsters’ efforts and enthusiasm.

The workshop was part of Camp Kernow’s county-wide Future Roots programme which Linden Homes has been supporting for over a year. The outreach project aims to raise awareness about alternative energy production and how to keep household bills down.

Mr Gilbert said: “Everyone talks about renewable energy. But these children are really getting to grips with what that means at a personal level. They’re so enthusiastic about it that I’m sure they will continue to spread their knowledge through their families and the wider community.”

The MP joined the children after he had paid a visit to a development by Linden Homes in the village, called The Tannery, which comprises 55 new and converted homes, with an element of affordable housing.

Linden Homes’ sales and marketing director for the south west, Brian Deacon said: “We are working to tackle housing shortages throughout the south west by delivering high quality homes that are energy efficient and cheap to run.

"Our long term commitment to Camp Kernow demonstrates how we can work with local people to provide energy efficient homes, tackle fuel poverty and strengthen communities.”
