A visiting cabinet minister praised our Eastern region’s award-winning Edge collection of homes in Harlow as an “amazing development”.
Robert Halfon MP was taken on a tour of the site and met Trevor Dempsey, Linden Homes Eastern’s managing director. They discussed land availability, planning law and investment in apprenticeships and skills – a subject close to Mr Halfon’s heart.
The MP pioneered the House of Commons apprenticeship scheme, taking on his first apprentice in 2010. He set up the Parliamentary Academy to encourage other MPs to take on their own apprentices and campaigned for a new University Technical College for Harlow, which was opened in September last year.
“This is an amazing development,” he said. “I’m very proud that Linden Homes is investing in Harlow, building both beautiful and affordable homes for the Harlow residents.
“Newhall is a great example of the best that Harlow can be. I was especially pleased to meet Mark Cooper, an apprentice from Harlow College who is helping to build these great homes.”
Trevor Dempsey, who began his career as an apprentice before becoming a management trainee, also told Mr Halfon about Linden Homes’ own ‘future talent’ programme:
“Our scheme includes commercial, operations, technical, sales and marketing, and support services,” he said. “By seeing all sides of the business, candidates gain a full insight into the way the company operates by working with various teams across the business.”
