1,000-mile cycle is adventurous Steve's latest charity challenge

One of our adventurous employees overcame wind, rain and a nasty accident to help raise nearly £3,000 for a hospice in West Sussex.

Steve Green, site manager at our Fernley Park development in Uckfield, East Sussex, challenged himself to ride more than 1,000 miles over two weeks from Land’s End to John O’Groats with friend Tom Amato, who used to work in our south-east region.

But days before he was due to reach the finishing line on July 14th, Steve came off his bike in the Highlands, broke several ribs and was eventually airlifted to hospital in Glasgow. He is now much better and back at work.

The friends have already scaled some of the tallest peaks in Britain, as well as Kilimanjaro in Africa and Mont Blanc in France – also in aid of St Catherine’s Hospice which treats people living with a terminal illness from across Crawley, Horsham, mid-Sussex and east Surrey.

Steve said: “We set ourselves the target of cycling 80 miles a day so it was a real challenge, but even at the toughest stages we were given heart by remembering the brilliant cause we were doing it all for.”
