South Minster Pastures: the lively market town of Beverley for entertainment and activity

Steeped in history, the town of Beverley is famed for its 13th century Minster, a beautiful example of Britain’s gothic architecture, sitting amongst its unblemished medieval skyline. With a popular market held every Wednesday and Saturday, those who opt for a property for sale in Beverley can enjoy wandering through the independent stalls selling local produce and artisan foods, or indeed the extensive range of shops including many high street chains.

With annual festivals including the Beverley & East Riding Early Music Festival and the Beverley Chamber Music Festival, the town boasts a thriving music scene. And with no shortage of numerous restaurants, cafes, and bars, as well as the Flemingate development, which includes a shopping centre, cinema, and hotel, there’s plenty of opportunity for entertainment.

For a more relaxed activity, the open countryside of Beverly Westwood is home to a golf course as well as the famous Beverley Racecourse. Just 10 miles from the port city of Hull, visitors can appreciate the sailing craft in the vibrant Marina and meander through picturesque Old Town, which provides a vast choice of places to drink and dine both day and night. Visit the town’s free museums, drop in at the award winning Ferens Art Gallery, or spend the day in The Deep, with its striking architecture and  even more striking displays of over 300 species and 5,000 animals - visitors can see the penguins, sharks, turtles and rays.

For the adventure-lover, Let Loose! is an all weather activity park situated in the south of Beverley. Built with sustainability at its heart, it offers both indoor and outdoor activities. Families are encouraged to visit to “let their hair down”, and there’s no shortage of ways to do just that with state of the art high- and low-ropes courses, climbing walls, zip wires, a giant geodome, soft play, slides and an adventure playground and a daily roller skating arena.

For something a little less frantic, the Beverley and East Riding Golf Club can be found at the Beverley Westwood pasture land. The oldest inland club in Yorkshire, its clubhouse is built around the landmark Black Mill and Anti-Mill. The 18-hole course is known to be one of the county's finest, most natural layouts with glorious views. A tranquil row on the River Hull is another idea for a day out. Beverley Boat Hire rents out rowing boats, canoes, and self drive motor boats from its base at Tickton, Beverley.

For a day by the seaside, Hornsea’s sand and shingle beach is skirted by a man-made seawall built to protect the coast from the North Sea. As well as observing the beach through the telescopes on the promenade, the many cafes and chip shops offer perfect rest stops for recouping and refuelling when exploring the shoreline.

Local Schools & Education

Transport & Travel

South Minster Pastures offers convenient access to the Beverley bypass (A1079), connecting the town to Hull just 10 miles away. Beverely is 33 miles from York and just 13 miles from the coast at Hornsea via the A1035. Beverley railway station sits on the Hull to Scarborough Line providing convenient morning and evening services daily to Hull, which is around 15 minutes away. From here, you can connect to Doncaster in 1 hour 15 minutes, or you can head to the capital arriving at London King’s Cross in around 3 hours 30 minutes. Trains leave Beverley for Scarborough regularly through the day with a journey time of 1 hour. Access to Humberside Airport is via the A164, over the Humber Bridge to the A15 and takes around 40 minutes.
