Explore the market town of Horsham

With its central location - including a mainline train station being just a short walk away and Gatwick Airport just 25 minutes away by road - Oaklands provides instant access to one of the loveliest market towns in West Sussex. Horsham has a good range of high street names and independent shops, all just a short walk away. It boasts all the names you’d expect of a bustling town, including Next, M&S, Jigsaw, Topshop, White Stuff, Boots and more, most of which are situated on calm, pedestrianised West Street. There are also supermarkets to choose from, as well as everyday amenities including a library, good schools for all ages, a gym and doctors’ surgery. There is a thriving bar and restaurant scene too, with old favourites like Pizza Express and Wagamama rubbing shoulders with unusual independent offerings. And with Horsham Museum and the popular Capitol Theatre to visit, you’ll never be bored on a trip into town.

Away from the high street and all its offerings, Horsham has a delightful park in the centre, as well as easy access to the former hunting grounds of Leechpool and Owlbeech Woods. South of the town, there’s Denne Park, while just west Warnham Nature Reserve offers close encounters with wildlife and flora. Horsham Park is also home to public tennis courts, a play area and the Pavilions in the Park Leisure Centre, where you can swim, work out, or relax in the sauna and steam room. Of course, you may like to enjoy a game or two of golf, so you will be easily able to reach Rockwood Golf Centre (just under 2 miles from home), and Horsham Golf & Fitness Club (just under 3 miles).

What’s close to Horsham?

You don’t have to travel far to enjoy more of what’s on offer in this part of south England. The large town of Crawley is around 7.5 miles from Oaklands and is where you’ll find an extensive range of shops, places to eat and drink and entertainment and leisure options. The County Mall Shopping Centre is where you’ll find big name brands and independent shops, while the town centre is home to a fantastic range of pubs, cafes, bars, coffee shops and restaurants for every taste. And if you want something fun to do, there is a Hollywood Bowl and a multiplex cinema a short distance from the town centre.

Around 26 miles from Oaklands is the seaside city of Brighton. Famous in all corners of the world for its eclectic and vibrant community, this is a hugely popular place for day-trippers and holidaymakers. Easily accessible via road or rail, you’ll be able to enjoy shopping, entertainment and culture all around. The Lanes - which are bustling all year round - are where you’ll find many hidden gems for clothing, music and places to eat and drink. A little further away - at around 33 miles - is Chichester. For art lovers, The Oxmarket Gallery and Pallant House Gallery are where you can enjoy a range of creativity from artists around the area and beyond. And for film buffs, the independent Chichester Cinema is the place for you. Of course, you can’t visit Chichester without seeing its wonderful cathedral, which has welcomed visitors from all over for more than 900 years.
