Built upon the ruins of an ancient Roman city, Shrewsbury became historically known as Charles Darwin’s birthplace, celebrated each year with various events. A wonderful place for family days out with the children, Shrewsbury offers activities throughout the whole year. For those preferring more peaceful activities, you’ll find the beautiful Shropshire countryside on your doorstep, as the town is situated on the river Severn.

For entertainment close to home, the Theatre Severn just 3 miles away puts on a range of plays and dramas all year round. Shopping lovers will find that, alongside the high street names, there is an array of unique fabulous independent retailers in the town centre, which means that there is something for everyone. And music enthusiasts will love Albert’s Shed, a small theatre that has gathered a reputation for being the place for live gigs in Shrewsbury.

If you want to drive outside town, head over to Telford (14 miles) to visit the Hoo Farm Animal Kingdom and the Exotic Zoo for a day out with the children. For more exciting days out, head over to Birmingham (42 miles away) - where business and pleasure definitely mix. Here you’ll find a good mix of big city amenities including a large selection of high street shops and department stores inside Bullring & Grand Central. You will definitely find something for everyone.

Local schools and education

Shrewsbury is the ideal location for families with children of all ages with a nursery, primary, and secondary school all within walking distance from our new homes. For families with young children, Belvidere Primary School (which received an ‘Good’ Ofsted rating) is less than 2 miles away. Mereside Church of England Primary Academy, which received a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating, is less than 1 mile away from Oteley Gardens.

Older students are well taken care of too. When it comes to secondary schools, Belvidere School is around 3 miles away.

With regards to higher education needs, the Shrewsbury University Centre is the closest to our new homes in Oteley Gardens. And the wide choice of universities in Birmingham are all within an hours’ drive and have great reputations as public universities.

Transport and Travel

Oteley Gardens is located just 1.5 miles from the A5 which runs around Shrewsbury South connecting the North West and South East towards Telford (14 miles). The A5 also connects with the A458 providing access to Birmingham (42 miles), Coventry (62 miles), Northampton (95 miles) and London (167 miles).
