Retford: A picturesque town in Nottinghamshire

With easy access to two key ‘A’ roads and Retford railway station, an excellent selection of shops, pubs, cafes and takeaways nearby, and surrounded by idyllic countryside, it’s easy to see why Retford is such a popular town to live. To the west lies the beautiful Peak District National Park, with its breath-taking views and opportunities for cycling, walking and wildlife-watching, while to the east is the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with its scenic, rolling hills and historic villages. Retford itself, mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, is one of the oldest boroughs in England, and there is much history and heritage to enjoy in the area surrounding this property for sale in Retford.

This thriving town was granted its first charter to hold a fair by Henry III in 1246, a tradition that was extended by Edward I in 1275 to hold a Saturday market, and which continues today, with a second weekly market taking place on Thursdays. Set against the backdrop of some elegant Georgian buildings, the varying market sees traders sell a range of goods, and especially local produce, including meat, fruit and vegetables, jams, honey and ice cream at the Farmers’ Market, held on the third Saturday of every month.
