Burton Latimer is a historic town. Prior to the Norman Conquest, the town was known as ‘Burtone’, with Latimer being added as a result of the local le Latimer family in the 13th century. Burton Latimer grew during the 19th century around the ironstone quarrying, clothing and footwear industries. The breakfast cereal company, Weetabix, arrived in the 1930s and they are still in the town today.
