Everything you need and want is right here

In southern Bedfordshire you’ll find the historic village of Houghton Regis, which goes all the way back to Edward the Confessor and, in 1086, the Domesday Book. At one time, it was considered more important than nearby towns such as Dunstable and Luton to the south west.

Today, with excellent road and rail links plus a wide range of everyday local amenities and schools, a new property in Dunstable at our Buckwood Leys development is the perfect place for professional couples, growing families and commuters alike to live. Being close to the foot of the Chiltern Hills with some glorious Bedfordshire countryside nearby, it’s not difficult to get the great outdoors into your life. And if you want to enjoy all the offerings of some vibrant local towns, you’re never far from Dunstable or Luton where you’ll find plenty of retail, entertainment, leisure, sport and culture attractions to choose from.

In the High Street and Bedford Square shopping centre, you’ll find plenty of amenities, ranging from a Morrison’s and Co-op supermarkets and independent butchers to the family-friendly services we all need like health centre, dentist, optician and pharmacies. There’s also plenty of green space, too, including a village green, Houghton Hall Park and another five recreation grounds.

The local Town Council organises several regular free events every year. These are popular with residents and visitors alike and include a Pancake Race, Easter Egg Hunt, May Fayre, Carnival, and the Classic and Vintage Car Show.

Dunstable town centre has a wide range of retail outlets, from big high street favourites to small, independent stores. The Quadrant and Ashton Square Shopping Centres, with their impressive selection of places for retail therapy and relaxing with a coffee, are both well worth a visit. In fact, for enjoying good food from most of the world’s leading cuisines, Dunstable is second to none. If you prefer to spend your leisure time in more cultural pursuits, try the Grove Theatre, and for smaller, more independent productions the Little Theatre gets rave reviews. There’s also a smattering of galleries and museums to enjoy in the town, from the Higgins to the Eagle.

For great days out for all the family, visit Whipsnade Zoo, the Whipsnade Tree Cathedral or - for something with a little more buzz – try Team Sport carting or the Go Bowling bowling alley. For magnificent views and so much more, the National Trust’s Chiltern Gateway Centre is a must see, as is Dunstable Priory which dates all the way back to 1132.

Just over 6 miles from Buckwood Leys is Luton, once centre of hat-making and Vauxhall Motors (which still makes commercial vehicles and has its headquarters in the town), but is perhaps most famous for its airport, one of the UK’s major transport hubs.

The town centre is undergoing a major regeneration programme. St George's Square has been rebuilt and was reopened in 2007, and an extension to the Mall Shopping Centre facing the square is now complete. The much larger Mall Arndale Shopping Centre has been extended and plans for Power Court, a new home for Luton Town Football Club and other facilities, have been submitted. What’s more, Napier Park is now well underway on the old Vauxhall Motors’ site which will provide an exciting mix of retail, business and residential uses.

There’s no doubt, Luton’s is a dynamic place and today provides the very best in everything from retailing and entertainment to sport and leisure facilities. For more family orientated fun, there’s Stockwood Park and Discovery Centre, Wardown House Museum and Gallery and Woodside Animal Farm and Leisure Park. For a more peaceful environment, try Wrest Park’s 92 acres of award-winning gardens or Luton Hoo’s famous grade I listed house and estate.

Another must-see is Luton Carnival. This is held the day before the last Bank Holiday Monday in May and is the largest one-day carnival in Europe.
