Work Begins To Create Linden Homes' Old Brewery In Horndean
12 Nov 2012

With the demolition work over, the proverbial phoenix is ready to rise from the ashes in Horndean. Linden Homes is embarking on the process of rejuvenating the heart of this Hampshire village as work begins now to build ‘The Old Brewery’.

Created on the site of the famous Gale and Co. brewery, this new development will eventually consist of a mixture of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom houses and 1 and 2 bedroom apartments.

The first phase will be made up of 19 homes: 13 houses and six apartments. The second phase will include 21 houses and 20 apartments. The new show home is expected to be opened in Spring 2013.

Linden Homes is now preparing a marketing suite on site, which will be open by the end of November. The suite will offer a flavour of what is in store at The Old Brewery: A model will show the layout of the new homes and there will be a kitchen and bathroom installed so visitors can see for themselves the renowned high specification of Linden Homes’ fixtures and fixings. And the famous Gale and Co. tower – the focal point of the village for 150 years – will remain at the centre of the new Linden Homes’ development.

The village of Horndean has existed since the early Middle Ages – it was originally established as a staging post because of its convenient position between Portsmouth and London. Today that ancient route is known as the A3 – and Horndean is, as ever, excellently located for London, Portsmouth and the south coast. It is also very close to the station at Rowland’s Castle, two miles away, where the trains go straight to London Waterloo. Horndean also has its own post office, a library, several pubs and convenience stores.

Linden Homes’ sales and marketing director, Mark Docherty says Linden Homes is proud to contribute to such a major role in the heart of this historic village:

“Horndean is a very old settlement and has always played an important part in the prosperity of the south of England. Today it is a busy and thriving place and we are proud to be building these new homes at the centre of the village - playing our part in helping it to prosper; and by renovating and maintaining the famous Gale and Co. tower, we are able to preserve an important symbol of Horndean’s history.”
