Two Couples' Stories Show Why Only Three Homes Left At Riverside
15 Dec 2015

As building work at the popular Riverside collection of new homes in Godalming nears completion, buyers are circling the last three properties left unsold.

The leafy development on the banks of the River Wey, by award-winning housebuilder Linden Homes, has sold fast thanks to its position close to the market town’s centre, local road and rail links, and high quality specification.

Andrew Reynolds, sales and marketing director at Linden Homes South, said: “We’ve had very warm feedback from our customers at Riverside. They love the location and design, and it’s why there are only three left – so househunters need to act fast or miss out.”

The last homes are a four-bedroom terraced house in the Thame style, and two three-bedroom semi-detached houses in the Arun style.

One couple knows exactly what it’s like to have Riverside in their sights with time slipping away. Shirley and Paul Acford, both retired, wanted to return from Haslemere after missing its charms – but had trouble selling their old house to make the move.

Former teacher Shirley (67) said: “It was nerve-wracking because we were desperate to get one of those properties at Riverside. I just thought: this is never going to happen.”

Linden Homes’ Part Exchange scheme came to the rescue and Shirley said: “It was a massive, massive relief – just blissful. We’re so happy that we could come back and I think this house is where we were meant to be. I just feel very, very, very at home here.”

For qualifying buyers, Part Exchange works by Linden Homes becoming the guaranteed cash buyer after valuations by independent local agents. The simple process saves customers time, hassle – and the expense of estate agent’s fees.

It was a different experience for Matthew and Kelly Murgatroyd, a younger couple who at first were reticent about buying a newly built home, despite the reassurance of a 10-year NHBC warranty and two-year customer care warranty.

Matthew explained: “Before we arrived, I was dubious. I’ve never liked the idea of big housing estates; I preferred a small collection of five or six houses.

“But when we arrived at Riverside, it was different. We talked with Tia and Laurie, the Linden Homes sales advisors, and we started to see how it could suit us. We also avoided being in a chain and buying off-plan worked out for us.

“This development is full of people who are around our age; professional people who work in London. People have come to this area from the north and more locally.”

Residents of Godalming have Guildford less than six miles away, while the A3 links to London and the south coast, both in under an hour. By rail, Godalming Station is only a 20 minute walk with direct services able to reach London Waterloo in 47 minutes.
