Treloar College Sale Enables New Housing From Linden Homes
19 Sep 2013

The last major hurdle has been cleared for award-winning Linden Homes to deliver nearly 60 much-needed quality homes in Upper Froyle, near Alton, after the sale was agreed of the former Treloar College.

Having secured the backing of East Hampshire District Council when it granted full planning permission, Linden Homes has now completed the purchase of the land off Ryebridge Lane.

The keenly anticipated village-style development will comprise 58 homes, comprising 41 new houses plus 17 apartments and townhouses created through a sensitive refurbishment of Burnham House at the centre of the site.

The select development is also going to feature a local shop as well as a series of green open spaces, including a large meadow at the south of the site. It is anticipated the first homes will be released onto the market by spring 2014.

The new neighbourhood will lie within the Froyle Conservation Area and the design of the homes carefully echoes Hampshire’s traditional rural architecture with emphasis on red brick and plain clay tiles.

The size of the homes will range between two and six-bedroom houses and townhouses, plus one and two-bedroom apartments.

Linden Homes Guildford managing director Peter Youll said: “We’re delighted to have completed the purchase of the site because it means we can now provide quality new homes through this sensitive redevelopment.

“We’ve been very careful to plan something that fits in with the area and its character – and that’s going to add to the charms of its beautiful location. As work progresses I think people are going to be impressed with what they see.”

During the building, the development will be registered under the Considerate Constructors Scheme, in line with Linden Homes’ national policy. The independently monitored initiative aims to foster close communication and understanding between builders and neighbours.

The homes are likely to attract intense interest from househunters thanks to their quality and location, with quick access to the A31 and proximity to Alton train station with direct services to London Waterloo in just under an hour and 10 minutes.

To the north lies Basingstoke and Reading, with their shopping and dining options, while to the south is the glorious South Downs National Park.
