St Michael's Place Comes Back To Life
23 Aug 2013

St Michael’s convent in Waterlooville is coming back to life. The first occupants of Linden Homes’ St Michael’s Place development are now moving into the high specification homes which have been built in the grounds of this old Victorian building.

Now that these first homes are being occupied, the whole development starts to take on an entirely new atmosphere. Signs of life, such as cars in the drive and pots of plants in the front gardens, start to appear.

And with the arrival of the first St Michael’s Place homeowners comes the first hint of the sense of community that will eventually exist here.

St Michael’s Place is still in its early days but it is now really beginning to take shape. The cold, wet winter threatened, but failed, to slow down the building work and today there is a wide selection of homes to choose from: There are one and two bedroom apartments, three and four bedroom terraced, semi detached and detached homes.

When you arrive on site, the long, tree lined drive, flanked by a large expanse of lawn, leads you down to, firstly the old Sacred Heart Church building, then on to the new homes which have been arranged around the beautiful grounds of this former convent, built in 1885.

In its heyday, the convent was a focal point for the community and played host to summer fetes and jubilee celebrations.

With the arrival of the new home owners, this neighbourly sense of community will be restored.

Tina Chalk, marketing manager for Linden Homes Southern says it is fascinating to watch a new development come alive:

“As soon as first new residents start to move in, the whole place takes on a different character. What was a site with new houses begins to have a heart. As the curtains and blinds go up and furniture goes in, the houses become homes and the sense of community begins to grow. It is an interesting process to see.”

St Michael’s Place is located in the heart of Waterlooville, off London Road – and despite the tranquil surroundings of the convent grounds is just a few minutes’ walk from the shops, banks and other amenities in the centre of town. Portsmouth is 8 miles away; Petersfield 10 miles away.
