Royal Barham House has won the Best Large Housing Development accolade at the annual South West LABC Building Excellence Awards.
Lovingly restored by Linden Homes and DCH, Royal Barham House has transformed Cornwall’s former Royal Infirmary in Truro into 19 beautiful apartments.
Located to the south of the city centre on the west side of Infirmary Hill, Cornwall's first hospital was originally constructed in the late 1790s and served the community for over 200 years, before it finally closed in 1999.
The Local Authority Building Control Building Excellence Awards are only given to the very best projects from across Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Dorset. Winners proceed onto the National LABC Grand Final Awards, which will be held in November in London.
Nigel Palmer, managing director for Linden Homes, said: “Site manager Jerry Dawkins and his team have worked tirelessly to create Royal Barham House and it’s testament to their team building skills, hard work and dedication that they have managed to deliver this award winning development to such a high standard. It’s certainly a building we can all be very proud of.”
Tony Franklin, business development commercial director from DCH said: “Royal Barham House has been a fascinating project and it was very important to us all to get it right – the results are stunning and we’re thrilled it has been recognised at the LABC Building Excellence Awards. It’s a great result.”
The site manager has already won a NHBC Pride in the Job Quality Award 2013 for his work on Royal Barham House, which is the final phase of the successful TR1 development.
The homes have been built to a high specification and some have magnificent views out towards Truro cathedral. There are just three beautiful apartments remaining.
