Malton residents have a tense wait to find out whether their town has been honoured for its horticultural prowess and flower power – following a recent visit by Yorkshire in Bloom judges.
The town council and numerous community groups, supported by businesses including Linden Homes East Yorkshire, have worked tirelessly during recent months to inject colour, vibrancy and creativity into Malton through a series of hanging baskets and tubs.
This is the first year that Malton has entered the Yorkshire In Bloom competition, with the judges having already visited the town – and a decision expected in early September.
One of the judges commented: “Malton has the potential to do good things in the In Bloom campaign, and we were impressed with the overall look of the town.”
Linden Homes East Yorkshire offered a helping hand in the huge horticultural task, paying for some of the 120 hanging baskets adorning areas around the town.
The project has been overseen locally by Malton Town Council – with voluntary assistance from a number of gardeners, community groups and organisations including; The Fitzwilliam Estate, Gardeners Club Malton School, St Michael’s Church, Malton Tidy Group, Malton Flower Club and Derwent Diggers.
Town councillor Christopher Turner said: “It has been very exciting to enter our first ever Malton In Bloom competition. Together with the sponsorship from Linden Homes and other businesses, and the commitment from the council and many community groups and individuals, we have been delighted with the outcome – and hope that final decision will mean even greater news for the town.”
Linden Homes East Yorkshire sales manager Julie Hubbard said: “As we have an association with the town, we have been delighted to help sponsor the Malton In Bloom efforts. Many of our Copperfields residents and newcomers are certainly benefitting from this amazing project now summer is here.”
