Oldest Ever Swanmore Resident Commemorated At Scholars Grange
27 May 2016

One of the oldest residents of Swanmore Parish has had a road named in her honour. The appropriately named ‘Reed Close’ now stands as a memorial to Mrs Kathleen Reed, a pillar of the Swanmore village community and dedicated resident.

Located in the new Linden Homes development, Scholars Grange, Reed Close will stand as a memorial to Mrs Reed, a much loved member of the community, who sadly passed away a few months ago aged 101.

Mrs. Reed spent 100 years in the picturesque, rural village and immersed herself in village life. She spent most of her long life as a housewife as well as bringing up her daughter, Pauline. Pauline Reed who grew up in the area has expressed her pride in seeing her mother’s life remembered in such a way.

Pauline said: “I am extremely honoured that the road has been named after my mum and that our family name, her life and commitment to the village will be remembered in the local area.

“It’s the perfect memorial to such a special lady and will ensure she lives on in the village that she loved so dearly.”

Pauline was joined at Scholars Grange by a Swanmore Parish Councillor representative to officially present the memorial and commemorate the life of Mrs. Reed.

A representative from Swanmore Parish Council said: “The new residents at Scholars Grange who will now be able to call Swanmore their home will be able to remember the long life led by Mrs. Reed, a much loved resident. We are here to remember the past but look forward to the future and the legacies left by residents like Mrs. Reed and so many others that live in our village.

“We’re really pleased Linden Homes has named Reed Close after Mrs. Reed – it’s a fitting tribute to a lovely lady!”

Swanmore is a village with a thriving community that includes a village shop, a post office and a butcher’s shop: there are also very well regarded primary and secondary schools within easy reach.

The village itself has easy access to Fareham, Portsmouth, Southampton and Winchester, so residents can enjoy village life knowing there are three major towns and cities close by.

Scholar’s Grange is a collection of three, four and five bedroom homes located just off New Road in Swanmore.
