Linden Homes is aiming to keep more than its homes in ship shape as it launches a Local Travel Plan at its Camomile Lawn development in Totnes during national Bike Week (10th to 18th June).
The Local Travel Plan has been created with Peter Brett Associates, and encourages residents at Camomile Lawn to focus on sustainability. Each household will be given a pack highlighting bus routes, car share schemes, cycle paths and they can also receive a free £100 voucher to spend with local cycling specialist, Hot Pursuit Cycles.
Brian Deacon, sales and marketing director for Linden Homes, said: “Camomile Lawn is in a great position and we really wanted to encourage people to get outside, take advantage of the location and keep fit. The Travel Plan provides our residents with local information and energy saving benefits, including a free four-week bus pass to show how easy it is to travel by bus and a bike voucher – so it seemed fitting to launch the plan during Bike Week. We were keen to support and work with another local business and we were very impressed with Hot Pursuit Cycles in Totnes.”
Director Chris Berry from Hot Pursuit Cycles in Totnes added: “We were delighted to get involved with this exciting project and it’s fantastic to see organisations such as Linden Homes promoting the sport. We offer a range of bicycles, from beginners through to professional carbon fibre bikes, and we can cater for all terrain and capabilities.”
Linden Homes recently created a path from Home Reach Avenue (just off Weston Lane) to link its new homes at Camomile Lawn with Steamer Quay and a mile-long route was made.
Brian added: “The new path is benefitting the whole of Totnes as it provides easy access to town and encourages people to leave their cars at home. Sustainability is important to us and at Camomile Lawn we are also creating some allotments. We’re delighted to have helped the local community and we’re pleased to see that the path is being well used.”
Jack Harris, transport planner from Peter Brett Associates and travel plan co-ordinator at Camomile Lawn said: “We are excited to be involved in the delivery of the Travel Plan for a development that we have worked on from inception right through to delivery. It’s great to finally get out and meet the local residents to encourage them to travel sustainably and go the extra Camo-mile!”
Cllr Hilary Bastone, South Hams District Council’s portfolio holder for Customer First, said: “This is a fantastic scheme supporting sustainable travel around Totnes. It really encourages residents to get out and about, stay fit and enjoy our beautiful scenery without leaving a carbon footprint behind.”
