Linden Homes Provides A Bright Future For Havant Based Apprentice Emily
17 Mar 2016

Emily Bolton, wasn’t sure she wanted to do when she left school in 2014 but after a brief stint studying childcare at college, she quickly realised this wasn’t a career path she would pursue.

Two years down the line and Emily has successfully completed an administrative apprenticeship with award-winning housebuilder Linden Homes, which she hopes will open the door to the many opportunities that come from working with such a well-established company.

Emily (18), who lives with her family in Havant said: “I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do when I first left school. Initially, I started a course in childcare but it didn’t take long for me to realise this wasn’t a path I wanted to pursue.

Emily spotted the opportunity to work with Linden Homes when the vacancy was advertised through Highbury College. Having been successfully shortlisted to the interview process, Emily was offered an administrator apprenticeship and started work in November 2014. She completed her apprenticeship this year and has recently become fully-fledged member of the team.

Emily explains that variety is what initially attracted her to the housebuilding industry: “One of my favourite things about working with Linden Homes is being based on site where I get to go out and about. Each day offers a variety of different tasks and I have learnt so much since I started.”

Based on site at Hawthorn Mews, Bedhampton in Hampshire, Emily supports the on-site management team with administrative duties, including ordering supplies and providing health and safety updates.

During her apprenticeship, Emily got to work at a number of Linden Homes South developments – dotted across Hampshire including the Old Brewery, Horndean and The Landons, Clanfield.

“The work culture on-site is great and I have fitted in nicely with the current team who have all made me feel welcome and helped me to develop since I started. At the moment, I am really happy with my current role where I am constantly learning new skills. However, there is a lot of opportunity for me to develop at Linden Homes and now I have completed my apprenticeship, eventually it would be great to progress to an assistant site manager which would be the next step.”

Emily’s apprenticeship was 100% work based where she was able to gain on the job training; alongside this she completed coursework to support the skills she was learning.

Susan Whiting, marketing manager at Linden Homes South commented: “Emily has been a great asset to the team at Linden and has come a long way since joining. Her administrative support it vital to the team on-site and we congratulate her on her hard work which has seen her successfully qualify earlier this year.”
