Linden Homes North West Teach About Safety On Site
23 Jul 2015

With the school summer holidays approaching, Linden Homes North West visited Medlock Primary school in Brunswick, Manchester to advise pupils on how to stay safe around building sites throughout the holidays.

Over 60 children, aged nine to 11, listened to a safety presentation from Sian Pitt, regional sales manager for Linden Homes and Gary Bailey, site manager. They were joined by special guest Ivor Goodsite, the mascot for the Considerate Constructors Scheme, who helped Sian to illustrate the different types of hazards the children may come across around a construction site.

The event was welcomed by head teacher, Miss Herbert, as Medlock Primary School is in close proximity to the New Brunswick development where Linden Homes is currently building 500 new homes. This forms part of the wider £100m regeneration programme for Brunswick, which is transforming the area.

Miss Herbert, said “As many of the children who attend Medlock live in the area, it is a great opportunity for them to hear first-hand about the dangers of playing around building sites.

“The children really enjoyed having Ivor visit the school and the presentation was enjoyable but informative, allowing the children to learn that building sites can have hidden dangers that they need to be aware of.”

Sian Pitt, said: “The start of the school holidays presents the ideal opportunity to remind children about the potential dangers on construction sites – many of which continue to remain active throughout the summer.

“We have really enjoyed visiting the school and engaging the children who live within the Brunswick area. Some of the pupils asked some really interesting questions and we are glad we are able to help to keep them safe during the holidays.”

The Considerate Constructors Scheme is an independent national initiative which aims to improve the image of the construction industry by encouraging best practice beyond statutory requirements and is concerned about any area of construction activity that may directly or indirectly impact on the image of the industry as a whole. The main areas of focus are the general public, the workforce and the environment.
