Following the success of last year’s inaugural Colts Rugby Festival – Linden Homes East Yorkshire has again been delighted to get onside with sponsoring the high profile sporting event.
The Hessle-based developer teamed up with the long running Hull Ionians RUFC, a rugby union club in the National I league, to sponsor its Colts 7-a-side tournament - which drew huge crowds on Easter Sunday.
Some 26 teams from clubs in Lancashire, Cheshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and around Yorkshire took part alongside Hull Ionians’ Colts - making it the largest Colts Club 7-a-side rugby festival in the North of England.
Supported by the RFU and the Yorkshire Referees Development Group, and sponsored by Linden Homes - the festival has attracted high praise from many of the visiting teams.
Jason Garrick, lead referee said: “In the 40 odd 7s tournaments I have been involved in, Hull Ionians was one of the most organised and smoothly run tournaments - it was a pleasure to be involved in.”
Matt Flegg, from Chester RUFC added: “It was a wonderful festival and well worth attending. It was a well organised, fun day out and a chance to test ourselves against teams that we have never played before.”
Andrew Palmer, Market Rasen RUFC commented: “We couldn’t fault a thing. It was a very good day and we look forward to coming back next year.”
Sales directors for Linden Homes East Yorkshire, Steve Woomble said: “As a regional developer at the heart of the community, we were very happy to once again support this tournament for promising young players and everyone involved with this successful and committed club. It was an excellent day with plenty of sporting talent on show.”
Hull Ionians was formed in 1989 by the merging of Hull and East Riding with Ionians, but was established as a club in its own right in 1929.
The National I league is the third highest level in English rugby behind the Premiership and Championship. The Club has four senior adult teams, a Colts team and teams in the Mini Junior Section from U6 through to U16 covering all age groups.
